November 1, 2017
Dear First Grade Families;
Wow! BPC really knows how to celebrate Halloween. The costumes, dance
parties, haunted house parade, and festival booths were so much fun! Thank
you to all of the parent volunteers that help make Halloween a wonderful
success.
During November we will be studying “The Harvest” (where does our food come
from, who grows it, who harvests it, what foods are in season?). Our sharing
for November is to bring in something that is harvested. This can be your
student’s favorite fruit, vegetable, or a drawing of their favorite fruit or vegetable.
Our field trip to the Old Town Farmer’s Market is on Friday, November 10th.
Please remember to bring a booster seat for your child.
Announcements and Reminders:
The 1st graders are also off to a fruitful start in the garden!
Throughout the year, they’ll practice using their five senses to make observations and learn about nature. They started by observing BPC’s chicken friends - and their beautiful, multicolor eggs - in the Upper School garden. Your family is always welcome to stop by and say “hi!”
In the coming weeks, Ms. Fryke is excited to join the 1st graders on their field trip to the farmer’s market!
Thank you 1st graders for all of your hard work!
Is your family interested in learning more about the BPC garden program, local environment-related opportunities, and more? Email Ms. Fryke (rfryke@blackpinecircle.org) to join the BPC Garden newsletter!

In art class we have been demonstrating our understanding of pattern and symmetry while drawing frames and sugar skulls. Come take a look at the new K-5 Dia de los Muertos inspired art display in the lower school hallway!
First Grade Music - 10/15/2017
The First Graders have certainly grown over the summer! We have jumped right in with our singing and rhythmic activities. This year the First Graders have their own music folders, which they have decorated and will take home at the end of the year. In these folders they will collect a variety of songs that we will sing in class. I will encourage them to bring these home now and then so they can share some singing with you!
